Just finished reading Binti for Diverse Voices. So 1st Bingo!
Card updated. First row.
So.....
Broken Promise: A Thriller - Linwood Barclay
Picked this especially for this Halloween Bingo. Bought it on sale. Have not read any book from this writer before.
The story started out okay. A single dad found his cousin with a baby that is not hers.
It seems to be interesting enough. But then the main character David, who was a journalist , investigate the story and found all the leads.
The problem is, it is not logical that the journalist wouldn't go to the police and offered this information once he got them.
Plus going to the house that might belonged to kidnapper without backup is just stupid. What if they are killers and he got killed? What would happened to his young son?
Also, the ending is horrible. Illogical. Unless this woman is poor evil, no one would do that to her own daughter.
Still give it a 3 stars as the middle part is good enough.
The Drop is a book I bought and have not read. It is of the Harry Bosch series. Bosch is investigating a suicide that he thought might be a murder. Bosch is not that kin on the father who asked him to do this.
The story goes smooth enough. The leads review bit by bit and the tension is fine. Michael is a steady writer and most of his work is logical and enjoyable. As for character development, he is getting even closer to daughter.
Like the build up on this Bosch character. Not too hard, not too soft, and all too human Bosch is a good detective. Giving clues as Bosch discovered them is good story telling technique.
Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay
Dexter is one of my favorite serial killer. He is so good at doing the killing stuff. And the narrative is enjoyable and fun.
For this one, Dexter met a good serial killer who is a lab tech for the police. The need to kill is being satisfied by following the rule set by his adopted father Harry.
Now, the new serial killer is admirable because he is a clean killer. Surprise.
Also, he dreamed about these killings....
This is so good. So enjoyable. I'm going to jump to the next one after I finished reading for these Halloween bingo squares.
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett,Neil Gaiman
For Witches square. I re-read Good Omens. It is very enjoyable. Especially when there is yet another prediction about end of the world on 23 Sept, that didn't happen, again. The anti-Christ has a different idea about how to act in this world. What's not to like.
For Diverse Voices, I picked a writer that I haven't heard of. And because it has to be a Black writer, the book is a bit unfamiliar.
it is not a ;bad choice. But like new writer that comes with some elements that I have strong dislike, it is not an enjoyable read. Also, there isn't much happening and would work better as a short story.
