The Fireman: A Novel - Joe Hill     Firestarter - Stephen King

Both 4.5 stars read.

I read the Firestarter for 80s Horror square. The classic book written by Stephen King. This is a different firestarter. One with X-men ability.

The running around bit is fine. The government agent who did this experiment on the girl's parents.

The good part is how the girl Charlie trying to control her ability. The bad guys are bad and there are so few good guys to help.

The showdown bits are good as well.

Actually, before I read this story by the father's,  I read Fireman first.

The story is about a disease that turn people skins black and make them catch fire and burn themselves out. According to the interview, this story is inspired by human spontaneous combustion.  I original thought it might be coming from the Firestarter story by his father.

It is scary. And people who don't have this disease yet is afraid of catching it. A pregnant woman Harper got the disease after working in the hospital. Her boyfriend went psycho. Now some hill billy humans are hunting down those who are infected. A man dressed up as fireman seems to be able to control this fire.

It is a long story. The details bit makes the story real and why some people could survive this and some turn into human torch.

Fool Me Once - Harlan Coben                      Darkest Fear - Harlan Coben

Fool Me Once - Harlan Coben    Darkest Fear - Harlan Coben

I read these books for fun as neither of them fit into the Halloween bingo square nicely.

Fool me Once is about a woman, an ex-military woman who lost her husband and now a single mom.

So why is she seeing her husband on the nanny cam? Who is playing trick on her? The writer Harlan deliberately hidden the truth about her husband till the end. She is now investigating more about the lost brother of her dead husband. How he died and how it was related to her husband's death now. The story' ending in a twist.

Another old one is Darkest Fear. This is an early Myron and Win story. Myron had a beautiful poison ivy ex-girlfriend Emily. She split with him and married his enemy Greg, who hired people to injury him in a game that ended his professional career in sport. Now she is telling him that she was pregnant with his child and now he is 13. Is Jeremy his? It really does not matter as Greg is now the father of the child. Being a biological father does not make him Dad.

Anyway, there is a bone marrow donor who got missing and he could save his life. But this person is hard to find by normal means. Is he a serial killer?

The story is tense and nicely done.

The Fatal Eggs - Mikhail Bulgakov  The Fatal Eggs - Mikhail Bulgakov

A big fan of Mikhail Bulgakov. This is a short book on a wrong delivery of eggs that lead to this strange story. It is strange and hard to describe but it is very enjoyable.

Forever Odd - Dean Koontz  Forever Odd - Dean Koontz

Forever Odd follows Odd after the death of Shadow.
Danny is his friend and he is missing. Danny's step father was killed. Who took Danny? This is the story on how Odd uses his power to find Danny and stay alive.

The sad bit of this story is Odd misses Shadow so much that he wishes he would follow her soon.

Grave Peril - Jim Butcher  Grave Peril - Jim Butcher

Something is torturing ghosts and make them go crazy. Who is doing that and why?

Dresden is the only wizard in town and he and his friend is now going after whoever it is that wanted to have these ghosts go crazy. There are the usual vampires of the red court who is being weird and invited Dresden to a party. The story got much faster at the party and afterwards.

Good story.

Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright - Chris Riddell  Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright - Chris Riddell

Children book with illustration. Just what I need to view. Pleasing to the eyes and child level humors. Not bad for a goth girl story.

The making up the names of characters that sound like famous literates is kind of funny.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Vol. 1 - Naoki Urasawa,Satch Watanabe  Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Vol. 1 - Naoki Urasawa,Satch Watanabe

A manga on a young surgeon who has to go through some hardship because he refused to give priority to VIP his girlfriend's father asked him to.

A boy was found in a crime scene, barely alive and he has chosen to save this boy.

The Burning World: A Warm Bodies Novel (The Warm Bodies Series) - Isaac Marion  The Burning World: A Warm Bodies Novel (The Warm Bodies Series) - Isaac Marion

Who is R. Is R Perry, Julie's previous boyfriend? Is he himself, the person that he once was before he was turned into a zombie.

Where could they go? The evil Axiom corp is trying to take over the world by murdering community leaders.

Really good read. The questioning of self is fine. But the story is not going anywhere when there isn't much hope for a future.

The Fate of Ten - Pittacus Lore  The Fate of Ten - Pittacus Lore

Not great. But not bad. The aliens who had superpower are now trying to gather their force in the fight for their new adopted home Earth.

A bit of running around for no big reasons. That's why it is 3.5 stars. Still the characters are not all good or all bad. The hunter is now hunting them with the reluctant help from their friend.

3.5 stars read.

The Wolves of Midwinter - Anne Rice  The Wolves of Midwinter - Anne Rice

Such disappointment. Reuben is not a bad werewolf. He got excited when he found out his ex-girlfriend is pregnant. But then he didn't moved that far from the shallow playboy type. He was a journalist before but didn't act like one.

And he was haunted by a woman ghost. Why did that bothered him so much? Everyone is serving him already and yet there isn't much happening.

There is not much of a story at all. Just a lot of preparing for party and trying to calm the ghost.

Oh. And his current girlfriend turned herself into a werewolf without consulting him.

Not really a good story. I dislike romance and this read too much like romance.
